Our Story:

Mackay Marina Village was established by three best friends—Malcolm Hall-Brown, Peter Hooke, and Neil Morris—who have collaborated for over 40 years under the Port Binnli banner. With a pioneering spirit and complementary skill sets, they have turned the marina into the thriving success it is today.

Malcolm, Peter, and Neil are committed to ensuring that Port Binnli and its associated companies continue to innovate in design, construction, and liveability, with projects that stand the test of time and a strong commitment to sustainability. Their world-class developments not only offer outstanding places to live but are also vibrant destinations to visit and enjoy.

Over the years, Mackay Marina Village has become a beacon for the city of Mackay. Port Binnli has enriched this beacon with hundreds of apartments, townhouses, a hotel, and a dynamic retail and industry precinct.

Twenty-five years and multiple Marina of the Year awards since opening, Mackay Marina is now transforming again. Supported by the State and Federal Governments, Port Binnli recently completed a $10.5 million Nib wall to enhance marina protection against adverse weather and cyclones.

In addition to twice winning Marina of the Year, Mackay Marina is a certified Clean Marina and the first in Queensland to achieve Fish-Friendly Status. As a 4 Gold Anchor marina, it meets the highest international standards for quality and service.

The marina has 479 berths, accommodating vessels from 10m to 55m. We take pride in being a Clean Marina with Fish-Friendly accreditation, validated by the Marina Industry Association's independent assessment and certification process.

Port Binnli’s diverse portfolio extends across notable projects, each showcasing our commitment to quality and community impact: from the boutique Raby Bay Marina to the waterfront luxury of Mantra Hotel Mackay Marina (formerly the Clarion Hotel), the expansive North Harbour development, and the industrial innovation at Kunda Park Central.

Raby Bay Marina: A modern, boutique-style marina with 75 floating berths in Cleveland, south of Brisbane. Set in a prime location amidst an entertainment and dining precinct, the marina is surrounded by boardwalks and close to supermarkets, shops, and other amenities.

Mantra Hotel Mackay Marina: Located on a prime 6,407 sqm waterfront site, this eight-storey hotel, built in 2005, offers stunning views of the Coral Sea within Mackay’s popular marina precinct.

North Harbour: Declared a Significant Project by the State Government in 2006, North Harbour was later highlighted by the City of Moreton Bay as one of its top five projects under the Regional Economic Development Strategy 2020-2041. In 2009, Queensland’s Coordinator-General approved an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for North Harbour, including the North Harbour Marina Precinct, marking it as a top development priority for the region.

Kunda Park Central: Completed in 2005 on Hoopers Road, Kunda Park, this was one of Port Binnli Group’s first major industrial developments on the Sunshine Coast.

History Of  The Marina

Mackay Marina Village boasts a rich history, beginning in 1935 with the laying of the Harbour Foundation Stone.

Officially opened on August 26, 1939, the marina expanded over the years, with bulk handling facilities approved in 1952 and the first shipment of bulk sugar dispatched from Mackay in 1957.

In 1998, Mackay Marina Village as we know it today took shape with the construction of a large rock seawall, reclaiming an open ocean area from the Coral Sea. This seawall, designed to withstand Mackay's 6.5m tides, marked the start of a new era for the marina.
