Mackay Marina Village and Shipyard – Still Marina of the Year
The World ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) Rally has again chosen Mackay Marina Village as their entry point into Australia for this year’s event.
Marina Manager Ben Anderson is very pleased to welcome the Rally back to Mackay for the third year.
“This is a huge undertaking for those taking part”, he said.
“Starting from Saint Lucia and Australia, World ARC is a 26,000 NM tradewind circumnavigation with
the ARC team in every port ensuring a warm welcome.
“It is a great event to have in Mackay as it brings new and repeat visitors to Mackay and the Marina
to explore and enjoy the area. There are plenty of shore‐side activities as a group, and those taking
part range from families with children, retirees or those taking a ‘grown up gap year’.
The marina has been steadily growing in popularity having been first named Marina of the Year in
2006 and is the current holder of this title. As an official Port Of Entry with onsite Customs and
Quarantine the team now welcomes a regular stream of visitors from around the world. Mackay
Marina is fast becoming the preferred entry point for all blue water cruising yachts.
Mackay Marina Village and Shipyard is a privately owned marina and shipyard facility located in Central
Queensland at the gateway to the Whitsundays. The precinct comprises a 479 berth marina including
six Superyacht berths, specially designed multihull berths, commercial fishing berths and maintenance berths. The marina caters for vessels up to 50m in length with up to 3.5m draft at LAT. The marina also boasts one of the most user friendly fuel docks on the coast with 13 pumps featuring some newly
installed Compac High Flow/ Low flow dispensers.
Mackay Marina Shipyard features a secure maintenance and repair facilities on a 14,000sqm concrete
hardstand with on‐site trades, weatherproof paint and maintenance sheds, blasting and a 65‐tonne travel lift with a 9.2m beam. The facility has received an above compliance rating from the EPA
and also a newly installed keel pit to cater for deep draft yachts.
The site also features a waterfront esplanade of bars, restaurants and shops and is home to the award
winning Clarion Hotel Mackay Marina (luxury 4.5 stars) – 79 self contained suites (designed so each room has an ocean view), function facilities, restaurant, bar and pool.
Ben Anderson says Best Environmental Practice has long been a key part of the team’s vision statement. “We have achieved and maintained Level 3 Clean Marina status, which acknowledges the achievement of rigorous environmental management systems audited by the Marina Association of Australia.
“Mackay Marina Village and Shipyard is one of The MIA certified Level 3 Clean Marinas in Australia and
is fully EPA approved. All facilities are regularly checked by marina staff and independent auditors to
ensure everything functions at 100 per cent capability and safety.”

AWARD WINNING MACKAY MARINA RECOGNISED AS FISH FRIENDLY
North Queensland’s Mackay Marina Village & Shipyard, winner of the 2013-2014 Marina of the Year award, has been awarded ‘Fish Friendly’ accreditation the first marina in Queensland to
be certified with this status as part of the International Clean Marina program coordinated by
the Marina Industries Association (MIA).
The certification focuses on the development and promotion of marina fish habitats and was first
developed by the NSW Department of Primary Industries in collaboration with the MIA and the NSW
Boating Industry Association.
Colin Bransgrove, Executive Director of the MIA said: “Marinas can provide important habitat for fish.
Fish Friendly Marinas has been developed to inform marina managers on how to maximise the benefits of marinas for fish and to recognise those operators actively working to improve fish habitat.”
The initiative is attached to MIA’s International Clean Marinas Program which promotes positive
environmental standards and practices at marinas. Additional fish friendly criteria and an audit are
requirements to achieve Fish Friendly Marina accreditation.
Colin Bransgrove said the roll out of the initiative is an important development. “Marinas are the ideal
location for many community members to see and learn about native fish and the aquatic environment.
Clean Marinas and the Fish Friendly accreditation addon demonstrate that industry, with support from
government, is best able to set the standards that meet and exceed community and government
expectations.”
Marina Manager, Ben Anderson said “We are proud to be accredited with this new environmental initiative at Mackay Marina Village. We are committed to ensuring our facility is of the highest environmental
standard through participation in programs such as Clean Marinas. Mackay Marina Village has fully
embraced the opportunity to meet the Fish Friendly criteria.”
Best Environmental Practice has long been a key part of the team’s vision statement. “We have achieved
and maintained Level 3 Clean Marina status, which acknowledges the achievement of rigorous
environmental management systems audited by the Marina Association of Australia.
“Mackay Marina Village and Shipyard is one of The MIA certified Level 3 Clean Marinas in Australia and is
fully EPA approved. All facilities are regularly checked by marina staff and independent auditors to ensure
